PM focuses minds on election

If only the British public could see Gordon Brown in his pyjamas – padding around 10 Downing Street in the early hours dwelling on matters of state – perhaps they would learn to love him.

That seemed to be the subtext of Sarah Brown’s emotional introduction of the prime minister at the Labour conference on Tuesday, or as she swooned: “My husband, my hero.”
