New French curfew laws as euro falls on riot fears

Dominique de Villepin, French prime minister, won approval on Tuesday to broaden powers to impose local curfews across the country as part of the government response to widespread rioting.

In the currency markets, the euro dropped to a two-year low against the dollar on fears that French riots would spread to other parts of Europe and after EU finance ministers pressed the European Central Bank to keep interest rates on hold.
