Bolivia's lower chamber of Congress on Tuesday set a timetable for an early presidential election in a move aimed at averting threat of more social unrest less than a month after President Carlos Mesa was forced out of office.

Under the deal, the general election and for the first time direct elections for provincial governors are to be held on December 4. The next scheduled elections were due to have been held in August 2007.
