Irish banks hit by European recession talk

European shares ended at their lowest level in over three years as rising oil prices weighed on stocks and turmoil in the US mortgage sector knocked banks across the Atlantic.

The FTSE Eurofirst 300 dropped 2.6 per cent to 1,126.39, bringing its losses for the week to 3.2 per cent.
