Trust blocks BBC’s plans to share iPlayer

The BBC Trust has unexpectedly blocked the broadcaster’s plans to share the technology behind the iPlayer, its popular web-video service, with struggling commercial broadcasters.

The trust’s ruling is another setback for the BBC’s broader partnership proposals, which were put forward last year as part of an attempt to avoid “top slicing” of its licence fee.
