Gold sinks below $900

Gold sank below $900 an ounce on Tuesday while base metals retreated and grains softened as commodity markets made a sluggish start to the second quarter.

A favoured trade for hedge funds this year has been to bet on the dollar falling and commodity prices rising but dealers said some of these trades were being reduced as funds cut back on leveraged positions at the start of the second quarter.
