Commissioner to press ahead with EU-wide tax

The European Union’s top tax official will press ahead with controversial plans for a harmonised corporate tax base as well as a proposal to introduce a tax to fund the EU budget.

László Kovács, tax commissioner, conceded the idea of an EU tax could face opposition from some member states, but promised to table a tax proposal as part of the European Commission’s budgetary review leading up to 2009.
