Indian market slide triggers trading halt

Indian stocks plunged more than 11 per cent seconds after opening on Tuesday, forcing the country’s stock exchange to suspend trading for an hour to halt the slide.

The market briefly recovered some of its losses when it reopened, but remained volatile as investors joined an Asia-wide sell-off driven by concerns over the US economy. At one point, the fall deepened to 13 per cent, and if it goes toward 15 per cent trade could be suspended again.
