Universities: Treble chance for students to make grade

All great cities need at least one university and some have two. But Liverpool has three, not to mention the Institute of Performing Arts founded 11 years ago with the help of Sir Paul McCartney.

Together they have some 50,000 students, and each has its own unique academic strengths that attract people from all over the world, many of whom stay on in Liverpool after completing their studies.
