Allocations to equities in decline

The UK pensions industry is awash with buzz phrases like liability-driven investment, and hype over private equity and hedge funds continues unabated, but equities still remain the dominant asset class for most pension funds.

However, allocations to equities have been steadily declining over the past decade, arguably to make room for these alternative investment strategies, which are either a better match for liabilities, or offer better risk-adjusted returns.
