Burberry hit by Spanish writedowns

Burberry, the British fashion house known for its beige checked fabrics, fell to an annual loss after making heavy writedowns on its Spanish business but benefited from sterling’s weakness and an aggressive cost-cutting plan.

The luxury goods maker, which was founded in the 19th century, reported a pre-tax loss of £16.1m in the year to April following profits of £195.7m in the previous year.
