GfK, the German market research group, is expected to announce on Wednesday that it is withdrawing its proposed bid for Taylor Nelson Sofres, a UK rival.

GfK’s discussions with Apax, the private equity group that it hoped would jointly bid for TNS, fell apart last night over price, according to people close to the plans.
