Nokia weighed down by networks venture

Shares in Nokia fell 11 per cent yesterday after a €908m writedown at its struggling network joint venture pushed the world’s biggest mobile phone maker to a surprise third-quarter loss.

The problems at Nokia-Siemens Networks overshadowed signs of improvement in the group’s core handset business as the Finnish group said that demand was recovering faster than expected in many markets.
