Political discord and economic woes present twin challenges

Korn Chatikavanij, who is expected to become Thailand’s next finance minister, said on Monday that the new government would have to pursue a twin-track policy to cure political and economic problems.

“The immediate challenge is political. There is no economic policy that could survive continuing political discord, therefore we need to make sure that there is a parallel political process as well as an economic solution,” Mr Korn said after the opposition Democrat party won the right to form Thailand’s next government.
