More banks turn to covered bonds

Europe’s covered bond market is surging as banks slow their issuance of bonds backed by governments amid growing confidence in the financial sector.

The sharp fall in covered bond spreads, which have narrowed significantly since the European Central Bank announced plans to purchase these assets to stimulate the eurozone economy in May, has proved a big attraction for banks.
