Progress on plan to boost ADB capital

Shareholders of the Asian Development Bank are considering tripling its capital as the global economic slowdown drives up demand for assistance.

Haruhiko Kuroda, president, last year proposed doubling the lender’s capital, which has not risen in about 15 years, but the plan stalled amid demands from the US and the UK for internal reform. The financial crisis, however, has heightened the urgency of action.
