The Big Tick is awarded to businesses able to demonstrate significant impact and high-quality management of their responsible business practices and that can show a positive impact both on society and on the business. Only 39 per cent of applicants in 2008 were successful. Each Big Tick marked with an asterisk is short-listed for the 2009 judging, and will compete for the Example of Excellence title, given to the overall winner in each category. In addition to these new Big Ticks for 2009, 81 programmes from 2007 and 2008 have been reaccredited.
