PM turns to private sector for welfare-to-work

The private and voluntary sectors are often “far best placed” to encourage people off welfare and into work, the prime minister said on Monday at a conference to launch his latest thinking on apprenticeships.

Underlining the government’s renewed commitment to the private sector in shifting people off benefits, Gordon Brown promised an “effective and growing market” for welfare-to-work services, plus a big increase in apprenticeships.
