Harbin, Sunday, November 27

In the windy plains of the north-east, Chinese cities can be grim places full of run-down factories and bleak housing complexes where the only break in the monotony is the pile of winter cabbage left outside. Against this backdrop Harbin is a city full of charms, not least the strong Russian influence.
