Santander, Spain’s biggest bank, is to compensate clients who lost millions of euros from products linked to Lehman Brothers, the failed US investment bank.
Banif, the private banking arm of Santander, said it would help clients by seeking to replace Lehman – the issuer of bonds that are almost worthless following the investment bank’s entry into Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings last month – with another issuer, possibly Santander itself.
