UK business confidence falls sharply

UK manufacturers’ order books fell unexpectedly in October and their confidence in the business climate fell at its sharpest rate since January 2006 in the last quarter, a survey showed on Tuesday.

A balance of 13 per cent of companies were less optimistic about the business situation than they were three months ago, according to the CBI’s latest quarterly survey of industrial trends. More companies said they were operating below capacity and investment intentions weakened.
