McCain rues UK pull-out of southern Iraq

John McCain, the likely Republican presidential nominee, on Wednesday voiced disappointment about the British withdrawal from southern Iraq last year, providing a foretaste of the “straight talk” style he would bring to international relations if elected president.

The UK handed over security of Basra to the Iraqi security forces in December as part of a move to cut its forces to 2,500 by this spring.
