'Garbage jobs' stifle Spanish innovation

Alex Drajicevic expected a good job when he arrived in Spain from Chile more than 10 years ago. With a degree in economics, he assumed it would be easy to find in a country with a booming economy.

But the only employment available was poorly paid, short-term work that offered little security and few benefits - what the Spanish call "garbage jobs".
