Risky strategy in Detroit shows signs of payoff

The past week has been a bittersweet one in Detroit.

The Tigers, the local baseball team, played in their first World Series since 1984, but succumbed on Friday night to the St Louis Cardinals. In the corporate arena, Motown’s two troubled car icons announced yet more quarterly losses, while trumpeting progress in their turnaround plans.
