Sir, While I welcome the outcome of the Carbon Trust study into the effects of the European Union’s emission trading scheme, which indicates that the energy-intensive sectors might be hurt by its effects, I would question the assertion made by Michael Grubb, its chief economist, that the EU’s emission trading scheme is unlikely to present “a threat to overall business competitiveness” (Report, January 15).
