When he stands up and announces his new economic team today, president-elect Barack Obama will return to Washington a partnership first forged in the 1990s: Tim Geithner and Larry Summers.

Both men bring great experience to their likely new roles as Secretary of the Treasury, the post to which Mr Geithner will be nominated, and director of the National Economic Council, Mr Summer’s new perch.
