China and Indonesia to be ‘strategic partners'

China and Indonesia are to form a three-pronged “strategic partnership” in an effort to formalise strengthening economic and other ties, Jakarta said yesterday.

Hu Jintao, China's president, and Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, his Indonesian counterpart, are to pledge stronger security, economic and social/cultural ties following a bilateral meeting next Monday, according to an Indonesian Foreign Ministry spokesman.
