US government questions online music pricing

The US Department of Justice has launched an investigation into leading music companies’ digital pricing, alongside an investigation by Eliot Spitzer, New York state attorney general, ratcheting up pressure on the industry.

They informed representatives from the four largest music companies – Universal Music Group, Warner Music, Sony BMG and EMI – that they planned to explore their pricing practices for digital downloads, according to people familiar with the matter.
