Overview: Positive figures heighten risk appetite

Wall Street stocks closed at 2009 highs yesterday, while gold reached another record peak as the dollar sank to a 15-month low, after positive economic figures from China helped bolster investor risk appetite.

The mood was further supported by a string of speeches overnight from Federal Reserve officials suggesting that US interest rates would remain low for some time to come.
