The Conservatives warned companies yesterday not to apply for contracts to build a third runway at Heathrow airport as the party was "absolutely determined" to stop the project.

Theresa Villiers, shadow transport secretary, recently disclosed Tory plans to build a high-speed rail line instead of the runway.
