Mark Wattles, a retail entrepreneur turned activist investor, has launched a proxy attack on Circuit City, the troubled electronics retailer, calling on shareholders to vote in June to remove its board in favour of five of his nominees.

Mr Wattles’ firm, Wattles Capital Management, has built a 6.5 per cent stake in Circuit City since December.
