Howard slams ?vote now, pay later Budget?

Michael Howard, the Conservative leader, accused the chancellor of producing a ?vote now, pay later Budget?.

Gordon Brown's package of measures might be good for Labour, but it would be bad for Britain, Mr Howard said. In 2001, months before the general election, the chancellor had cut taxes by ?1bn ($1.9bn) only to raise them by ?8bn the following year. ?It is deja vu all over again.?
