Merck unveiled its new trial tactics and strategy on Wednesday at the start of the second trial claiming injury from Vioxx, seeking to avoid another damaging loss in court over the pain drug withdrawn due to heart risks.

Opening statements began on Wednesday over claims by Frederick Humeston, a 60-year-old Idaho man, that Vioxx caused his heart attack in 2001 and Merck misrepresented the medicine's risks.
