Moscow recalls Georgia envoy in 'spy' rift

Russia last night recalled its ambassador from Georgia and said it would begin evacuating Russian personnel after the Caucasus republic detained on Wednesday four Russian military officers on spying charges.

The foreign ministry earlier warned it would use "all available means" to free the Russian officers, as tensions between the two former Soviet republics escalated. Russian authorities said they had launched a partial evacuation of official personnel because of "a growing threat to their security" and warned citizens against travel to Georgia.
