Economy to dominate US presidential race

For the first time since 1992, the US presidential race looks set to be dominated by “It’s the economy, stupid”, several months after such concerns hit Wall Street.

In the past few days, three of the presidential candidates – Democrats Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, and Republican Rudy Giul­iani – have unveiled stimulus plans to head off what economists now say is a more than 50 per cent chance of a US recession.
