Alternatives: Bright future for sun and sea power

One of the brightest areas of alternative energy is the solar market – not conventional solar panels, known as photovoltaic units, which convert sunlight directly into electrical current. The hot new area of the solar sector is concentrated solar power, sometimes known as concentrated solar thermal power.

CSP works with mirrors. An array of mirrors is angled so as to concentrate the rays of the sun on to a vat containing water, which turns to steam under the heat and drives a turbine.
