Egypt human rights body rejects UK's extradition proposal

Egypt's National Council for Human Rights (NCHR) has turned down a British proposal that it act as a safeguard against torture in the case of Egyptian dissidents threatened with deportation from the UK.

The rejection is a setback to British government efforts at securing assurances from Egypt that dissidents extradited under new antiterror plans would be treated humanely and offered a fair trial.
