Rebel aircraft bomb Colombo

Sri Lankan rebels launched an air raid on the centre of Colombo, the island’s capital, on Friday night in a surprise show of defiance from a group the world had all but written off as a spent force.

Two light aircraft of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam bombed the main tax office close to the presidential palace, the central bank and airforce headquarters, injuring 42 people as anti-aircraft guns thundered in response.
