JC Flowers pulls bid for Friends Provident

JC Flowers on Friday night formally withdrew its £3.5bn proposed offer for Friends Provident, appearing to end the US private equity group’s year-long pursuit of the embattled life assurer.

JC Flowers had issued a last-ditch ultimatum on Monday to the Friends board, led by Sir Adrian Montague, to enter into talks by the close of business Friday, or it would walk away.
