Crude hits $70 and base metals advance

Crude oil prices made a strong start to trading on Monday, extending last week’s gains, while copper led the base metals sector higher and sugar rose as markets benefited from a further improvement in risk appetite.

ICE September Brent sprinted out of the starting blocks and raced to an early high of $71.28 a barrel. It then paused before rallying again to trade 49 cents higher at $70.81.
