Kenyan stalemate as foes set conditions

The political foes in Kenya’s bloody post-election crisis were deadlocked on Wednesday night as both sides expressed a willingness to talk but set preconditions that made dialogue impossible.

Raila Odinga, the populist leader of the opposition, insisted that President Mwai Kibaki recognise the “illegitimacy” of his election victory or agree to international mediation.
