Oil-fuelled boom not enough to insulate Gulf nations

Gulf equity markets suffered heavy losses yesterday amid mounting fears about contagion from the global financial crisis and domestic concerns about the region's real estate markets, write Andrew England and Simeon Kerr .

Saudi Arabia's market - the Arab world's largest by market capitalisation - led the declines falling 9.8 per cent, while the Dubai Financial Market was down 7.6 per cent, similar to its performance on Sunday.
