Care UK, the private health provider, is on track to expand its clinical care business by snapping up the Mercury Health division of Tribal, the debt-laden support services group, for about £77m cash, including assumed debt.

The deal, which could be announced today, will make Care UK one of the leading providers of primary care and fast-track surgery centres alongside Bupa and Netcare.
