Abbas ceasefire hopes challenged by Gaza ambush

A Jewish settler was killed and three soldiers wounded on Wednesday in a Gaza ambush carried out by Palestinian militants opposed to efforts by Mahmoud Abbas, the president-elect, to achieve a ceasefire.

The Islamic Jihad group said such attacks would continue "until Palestine is returned, through the barrel of our guns". It said three of its members were killed in a gun battle after the ambush.
