Virgin and Ryanair to cut jobs

Virgin Atlantic, the airline controlled by Sir Richard Branson, and Ireland’s Ryan­air announced job cuts on Thursday in response to the deepening recession.

Virgin said it was planning to cut up to 600 jobs, or 7 per cent of its workforce, while Ryanair is cutting 200 jobs at its Dublin base.
