Fed likely to consider further rate cuts

The Federal Reserve is likely to cut interest rates by 25 basis points at its policy meeting on Tuesday and indicate its willingness to consider further rate cuts in the future by citing low growth as the main risk to the US economy, most analysts believe.

Many also think that the US central bank will also cut the discount rate at which it lends directly to banks by 50 basis points, and may alter the arrangements surrounding this lending facility to make it more effective.
