US and EU hail Turkey-Armenia breakthrough

The US and the European Commission on Thursday hailed a breakthrough between Turkey and Armenia that could end one of the most intractable disputes left from the collapse of the Soviet Union, but also called for sustained political effort to break the deadlock.

The agreement sets out a road map for the neighbours to normalise relations “in a mutually satisfactory manner”, according to a statement by their foreign ministries and Swiss mediators.
