Michele Ferrero, the patriarch of the Italian confectionery dynasty, is the Willy Wonka of real life chocolatiers. Like the fictional protagonist of Roald Dahl’s dark children’s tale, myths have grown up about his obsessive genius. Inside his personal laboratory at home in north-west Italy, legend goes that he worked for five years to discover how to bend the wafers that go into Ferrero Rocher chocolates.
