Exposure to the City hits largest law firm

Profits plunged more than a third last year at Clifford Chance, the world’s largest law firm, in the most striking sign yet of how the finance industry’s troubles have spread to legal London.

Average partner earnings fell almost half a million pounds as the firm was hit by banking client turmoil and bills from a big programme to cut lawyers and support staff.
