Philip Bowman, the chief executive of Smiths Group, is putting the finishing touches to his ambitious restructuring plan for the engineering group that will cut costs and set new financial targets for individual divisions.

The details, which will be unveiled alongside the group’s full-year results in September, will see Smiths take out up to £10m in costs from its head office alone.
